Catherine Smith, the daughter of John Smith and Rebecka Anderson was born 6 APR 1735 Hopewell, Mercer, New Jersey [1] She died in 1783 in Rowan County, North Carolina and was buried at Eatons Baptist Church Cemetery in Mocksville, Davie County, North Carolina, where her Mother, Rebecca was laid to rest 2 years later in 1785. [2]
On 5 May 1754 in Rowan, North Carolina, Catherine married Thomas Turner Sr., the son of John Turner and Sarah Elizabeth Williams. [3] Thomas served in the Revolutionary war and was a Patriot of the state of North Carolina. He took the oath of Allegiance on the 30th day of May, 1778, Signed by Robert Moore. [4]
Catherine and Thomas had 11 children, all born and raised in Rowan County, North Carolina. When Catherine passed away in 1783 at the age of 48, four of her twelve children were under the age of 11.
Seven years after Catherine's death, Thomas Turner married again on July 22, 1790, when he was 55 years old. His wife was Elenore "Nelly" Dill in Madison, Kentucky. Thomas and Nelly had five children together.
