Biography

Daniel was born on September 27, 1642 in Watertown, MA as shown on page 10 of the "Births, Marriages and Deaths" section of Watertown Town Records.[1]

His marriage to Mary Grant on February 22, 1667/68 appears on page 30 of the same records.[1] According to the book "Divided We Stand: Watertown, Massachusetts, 1630-1680, the marriage may not have had full consent of the parents:

"In some cases young couples used pregnancy to force reluctant parents to consent to marriage, as did the enraptured Daniel Smith when his mother opposed his union with the disreputable Grant family. Mary Grant's 'great belly' ensured that the lovers became yoke fellows." [2] page 123. The original source in the book is indicated by a citation footnote #40 which unfortunately does not seem to be available in the free Google books preview.

Daniel's genealogy appears on page 570 of the "History of the Town of Stonington, Connecticut[3] A transcription of his will, signed 31 May 1861. Daniel's will names two eldest sons, Daniel and John and third son, Joseph ins on pages 725-6 of this source.

Smith-45591 and Smith-52467 appear to represent the same person because: According to TAG vol 62 English Origins of Grace Ravens etc by Michael Wood and other sources, these 2 are the Daniel Smith, husband of Mary Grant and son of Daniel Smith who married Elizabeth Rogers, daughter of Grace Ravens Sherman Rogers Porter. Merges have also been submitted for the 2 parents of this Daniel.
