Biography

George Smith is an LDS pioneer.


George Albert Smith, born in Salt Lake City in 1870 - one of 19 children - was the second born and the first surviving son of John Henry smith and Sarah Farr.

He was the Eighth President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Great-grandson of John Smith, Patriarch to the Church and brother to Joseph Smith Sr; Grandson of George A. Smith, Apostle and Counselor to Brigham Young; and son of John Henry Smith, Apostle and Counselor to President Joseph F. Smith.

George was 22 years old when he married Lucy E Woodruff, 25 May 1892, in Sanpete County, Utah. By 1890, the couple had their first two daughters: Emily and Edith. They lived at 19 North West Temple Street, Ward 3, Salt Lake City. George works at a bank. Lucy's brother, Elias, lived with them, along with a boarder, Lacratia Cooley.

In the 1910 U.S. census, son George A. Smith, has been added to the family. George is a minister. By 1920, George is a bank president. They live at 1302 Yale Avenue, Salt Lake City. George is widowed in the 1940 census.

Birth & death on April 4.

Passport: George Albert Smith accompanied by his wife, Lucy E.V. Smith, traveled on a mission to Great Britain, Ireland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, and Spain. Object of visit was Supervising religious work.

George is the great-great-great-grandson of Richard Lyman, a Revolutionary War patriot (#239987), who served with General Putnam, Connecticut Continental Line. George holds National Number 48422, State Number 448, The Utah Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
