Daniel Smith was born in Hancock, Massachusetts Bay Colony on December 9, 1769, the son of William Walker Smith and Mary Polly Tamplin. Daniel fought throughout the duration of the American Revolutionary War and is believed to have attained the rank of Captain.[1]
He married Eunice Gardner around 1795[2] and they made their home in Stephentown, in Rensselaer County, New York.[3] Their children included:
The family prospered and grew in Stephentown, although they kept their ties with the family in Hancock.[6] Daniel passed away November 28, 1838 in his home in Stephentown,[7][8] and was buried in the family plot at Noah Ely Cemetery in Hancock, Berkshire, Massachusetts.[9]
