Communication Preferences: I am interested in communicating private message with close cousins. My family tree is here on WikiTree but it's private.
I've learned a lot about careful genealogy since I first started tracing my family tree on Ancestry in the 2000s. I joined WikiTree in 2013, but took a hiatus for a few years. Now I'm back, and have been busy cleaning up sources in the profiles I manage (mostly replacing Ancestry sources with those from free sites like FamilySearch.org), and some in profiles of my ancestors whom I don't manage but have more information about. I've also recently begun adding my husband's genealogy here -- almost exclusively from Norway, with a few Swedes and Danes -- which has been a fun job. (Digitalarkivet -- Norway's public genealogy source site -- is a treasure trove of great data!) I've also recently joined the US Black Heritage project, excited to get to work on that.

US Black Heritage PATH Graduate
Stacy (Smith) Aannestad is a graduate of the USBH Heritage Exchange Track on the PATH.
Stacy (Smith) Aannestad Participated in the 2021 US Black Heritage Project Connecting Challenge.

Stacy was born in the 1960s in Texas. She grew up in West Texas. She was active in the choral program in her high school and won local and state-level awards. She started out her college "career" majoring in music, but eventually received a B. A. in History from Arizona State University. Her focus was on British and Irish history, specializing in the "Irish Troubles" of the late 20th Century.

In the late 1980s Stacy spent a semester in London, UK, where she met her future husband who was also there for a semester. She transferred to Arizona State after that semester. She and Bjørn were married in Texas, and a few months later moved to Colorado where she worked for a time with a medical products company. She left paid work after their son was born, and switched careers to stay-at-home mom. After a couple of years the family moved back to Arizona, and eventually ended up near her parents back in Texas.

Stacy has always loved to hear the stories of family history her parents and grandparents told. She completed a badge in Genealogy in the Girl Scout Cadettes program, but it was not until her adult years, when she had only one grandparent still living, that she realized the need for someone in the family to do the real research and create a reliable family tree. She bought her first membership at Ancestry.com nearly 20 years ago, and began the wild ride of piecing together her mostly British Isles genealogy. It's been on-again, off-again, but she continues to learn and improve her genealogy skills as she goes. She has added her husband's mostly Norwegian family to the tree in recent years. She is currently working with the US Black Heritage on WikiTree, as well as continuing to research and improve her own family's profiles.

Hello Stacy!

I’m conducting the 6-month check in for the US Black Heritage Project. Because we are growing so fast, it’s not always possible for me to see what everyone’s working on.

I’d love to hear what you’ve been working on and if you are still happy being a part of the Profile Improvement team. Members can change teams at any time.

Emma

Hello Stacy,

We have a Google group for the Texas Project. If you are interested in joining the Texas Google group, please send me your email address by private Wikitree email.

I will then add your email address and you will be set to receive the postings.

thanks

Thank you for joining the December USBH Connecting Challenge and helping us create 10,523 new profiles. We succeeded in our goal of creating 50,000 new profiles in 2021!

We’ve started the January challenge here: January Connecting Challenge. We are working toward a goal of 150,000 total profiles in 2022.

Emma

Hello! We’re putting out a call to all past USBH Connecting Challenge participants. We are only a few thousand profiles away from meeting our goal of 50,000 new profiles for 2021. I hope you’ll be able to join us by adding some new profiles in December. They sign up post is here:

Thanks for your contributions in 2021! Emma

Hi Stacy, I'm finally catching up on the Connecting Challenge. Thank you for joining us in October for the Connecting Challenge and helping us create 3346 new profiles. Our 2021 total is now 29,572!

Here's the link to the participation sticker if you need that again: Connecting Challenge Stickers

I have you down for 22 profiles for last month. Does that look right? thanks! Emma

22 sounds right! I think it will be far fewer in November, but hoping to ramp back up in December after NaNoWriMo is over.

Thank you!

Yeah, I'm going to make a sad showing at WikiTree this month with all the writing going on, but it all adds up over time :-)
Hi Stacy. You and I share a DNA connection through the Robert David Brown/Matilda Clay line, my 3rd great maternal grandparents. It's possible a William Brown may be Robert's father, as shown in my Scottish Roots Family Tree (Working) in Ancestry.com. Thru Lines for William (Samuel?) Brown (1752 Guilford NC - 1846 Perry, AL) to me appears through Robert via Samuel Porter Brown (1802 Abbeville SC - 1846 Perry, AL). Samuel P is a purported younger brother of Robert and his lineage is pretty well documented in Ancestry. However, in William's Will, Robert is listed in a sibling order that suggests he was born after 1802, after Samuel vs. May 1789.

My DNA connection for this Thru Line is Shannon Smith, 11 cM over 2 segments. Do you possibly have a connection to Shannon Smith? I don't find William Samuel Brown or Samuel Porter Brown here in Wiki. I realize Thru Lines data requires additional confirmation and wonder if you've come across similar information or connections in your research. I'm unsure whether to continue down this track or disregard it.

Thanks in advance! Suzanne

I am connected to a Shannon Smith, 9cm <1%, don't know if that's the same one (this one has a private tree). I have no clue what to tell you about William Brown being Robert's father -- I'm sorry! Ancestry suggests a Joseph Brown, but I haven't checked into that. At this point I've just brick-walled him. I really wish I could help out!

Thank you so much, Mary! I'll do my best to do Dawson County proud!
Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions or problems, let me know.

Take care

Hi Stacy! You and I are cousins descended from Matilda Clay and Robert David Brown. I've sent you a private message in WikiTree and in Ancestry.com, as have Trusted ID requests pending with you. I need to merge someone with one of the profiles you manage. I'm advised to add the links, below, with this message.

I would appreciate it if you could take a look at these and let me know if there's a problem.

Thanks, Suzanne Howe

Suzanne, I'm sorry -- something went wonky with my email and admin closed my account. I wasn't super active, but I was still responding to messages. My account has been reinstated and I should be able to receive messages now. I hope you got someone to do the merge anyway. I feel badly that all of this has happened and I missed several important messages. :(
