DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Abigail by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Abigail:
The parents of Abigail Howland Smith Hallock are by no means certain. "The Choates in America" lists the children of Hannah Choate Smith and Captain Samuel Smith but does not include Abigail Howland Smith, and "Howland" does not, in any event, seem to be a common name in the Choate family. I would appreciate any light anyone can shed on Abigail's parentage. Her birth date does seem to be confirmed by US Census data in the places that she is known to have lived after her marriage, and she is buried in Iowa next to her husband.
