"John Smith was the son of John and Mary (Jaquelin) Smith who were married at Jamestown, Virginia November 17th 1773 by the Reverand William Dawson. Copy of leaf from Bible in appendix. In consequence of the sale of the Smith family to pay for speaker Robinson's defalcation on whose bond their father had been John Smith and his brother EDWARD removed from Fleet's Bay in Northumberland County Virginia to Frederick County in 1773. John Smith settled at Hackwood and Edward Smith settled at Smithfield near Winchester. A portion of this defalcation was recovered in 1839 and divided among the heirs. John Smith was immediately, after change of residence, commissioned by the Governor, one of the King's Justice's, and the next year was promoted to the post of County Lieutenant, which made him not only a Justice but gave him command over the County Militia, then very large. Smith-80952 and Smith-62545 do not represent the same person because: Different name, nothing in common

BIG CAUTION HERE

The Edward Smith who was son of John Smith "of Shooter's Hill" and Mary Jacquelin was born 11 June 1752 as recorded in the family bible referenced here and Find-a-Grave has his memorial with that date.

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/23705714/edward-smith

The Edward Smith profiled here, born 23 Jan 1741 could not have been the son of the listed parents because they had another child, Martha Jaqueline Smith, born 12th Novr 1740, also as listed in the referenced Family Bible.

Smith-66466 and Smith-62545 appear to represent the same person because: Kelly, I couldn't determine from the multitude of Edward Smiths that there was a match to the one I added. However, when I added his wife, there was a clear duplicate there. Now I would like to merge the two Edward Smiths.
