Mary Elizabeth Smith, 2nd. wife of John C. lavender was my maternal Great Grandmother.
Personal knowledge received from my maternal Grandmother, Lillian May (Lavender) Rorick (born 1887 died 1963) back around 1960 or 1961. She was the 14th child of John & Mary E. (Smith) Lavender. Mary Lavender's certificate of death from the Dept. of Vital Statistics Office on Frontage Road Gloversville, New York. Various Federal & State Census Returns. Prospect Hill Cemetery Records in Gloversville, New York.
She was my maternal Great Grandmother who died before I was born therefore I never knew her. I have no recollections to share of her life. She was the mother of 15 children born between 1868-1889 among which were 3 sets of twins born in 1877, 1879 & 1885. She worked very hard as a washer woman to care for her children. Her husband died in 1891 leaving her with several small children to care for. The oldest children got married young so as to cut down on the size of her family thus making it easier for the mother.
