John Smith, son of Richard and Joanna (Quarles) Smith, was born 20 January 1656 in Lancaster, Massachusetts. Lancaster records give the date of his birth as "20=11 mon 1655"; the modern-style equivalent date is 20 January 1656.
He married Marah in Lyme, Connecticut, on 26 October 1685. Jacobus did not identify a last name for her, but Virgil Huntley identified her as Mary Huntley, daughter of John and Jane Huntley. They settled in Lyme, Connecticut, on land granted to them in 1702 near "4 Mile Stream," a south-flowing stream in the western part of what later became the town of East Lyme.
Martha Smith. born 8 August 1686. She married Isaac Tubbs before 1710.
Ruth Smith; married first on 23 October 1718 to Edward Robbins, who died 5 Dec. 1731; second to John Lay (born 25 March 1783), son of John "the Elder" and Sarah Lay.
Samuel Smith; born about 1695; known as "Sergeant Samuel"; died 18 June 1737 in 42nd year (according to his gravestone).
Josiah Smith, born about 1696; married Rhoda; died 21 May 1769, ae. 73 (gravestone).
Jeremiah or Jemima Smith; Jemima was married on 19 November 1721 to Samuel Tinker, Jr.
Quarles Smith; had a deed from his father on 17 June 1722, married Mary _____, had issue.
Joseph Smith, born circa 1700; died 29 April 1725 ae. 25 (gravestone); had land from father 31 Aug. 1724.
John Smith, Jr.; had a deed from his father on 12 January 1725; died by 1730 (administration on his estate occurred on 10 March 1729/30). 
Elizabeth Smith; married first to Daniel Smith on 17 December 1726; married second to Jonathan Reed on 14 March 1733/4.
John Smith died 16 September 1736, AE at Lyme, Connecticut. Administration of his estate occurred on 14 October 1736.
