Lyman Cornelius Smith, son of Lewis Stevens Smith and Eliza Ann (Hurlbut) Smith was born March 31, 1850 at Torrington, Litchfield County, Connecticut, USA.
He married Flora Elizabeth Burns.
He and his brothers, Wilbert Smith, Monroe C. Smith and Hurlbut Smith founded the Smith Premier Typewriter Company in 1886. The Smith-Premier Typewriter Company later became the Smith-Corona Typewriter Company.
He was a principal of L.C. Smith Shotgun Company of Syracuse which was sold to Hunter Arms Company in 1899.
In 1903 the L. C. Smith & Bros. Typewriter Company was founded.
Lyman died November 5, 1910 at age 60 at Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York and was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse, New York. His memorial has photos, a biography and links to those of family members.
