Biography

Mary Catherine Smith was born in February of 1845 in Gilmer County, Virginia to Greenberry and Margaret Hendrickson Smith. She is listed with her parents on the 1850 Census in Wirt County, Virginia.^[1] On December 22, 1866 she married John Hall Newlands in Wood County, West Virginia.^[2][3] They are listed together on the 1880 Census,^[4] the 1900 Census,^[5] the 1910 Census,^[6] and the 1920 Census.^[7] Her husband passed away in 1921 and she passed away in May of 1923.^[8]
