Caroline Amelia Smith was born 27 Jan 1795 in New York, daughter of William Smith and Nabby Adams. She was the granddaughter of John Adams, the second President of the United States of America.

She married John Peter de Windt.
On 28 Jul 1852 she died in the Henry Clay steamship disaster on the Hudson River, near Yonkers, New York. (note: currently Riverdale, The Bronx, New York City).
