John was born in 1754. He died in 1837 at the age of 83.
John entered into the American Continental Army in August 1777 in Fauquier County, Virginia. He served 3 years as a Private in Captain Elias Edmond's Company until his discharge in 8/22/1780 at Richmond, Virginia. He was allowed a pension on 11/2/1818 in Blount County, Tennessee. In 1824, John was a resident of Lawrence County, Indiana. John & most of his family are buried in the John Andrew Smith Cemetery in Lawrence County, located on State Road a few miles from Spring Mill Park in the middle of a field. The cemetery, so far, is fenced in and has been taken care of. DAR Ancestor # A106038

Spouse #3: Betsy Ann "Alice" (Payne) Smith 1758 - 1812. She was 1st married to Levi Smith & they had 3 children. She is said to be buried at the Hopewell Friends Burial Ground in Clear Brook, Frederick, Virginia. No burial page for her.
