Charles Smith was born about July 5, 1635 possibley in Leicester, Leicestershire, England (or in Harting, Sussex where he was baptised), son of Charles Smith (1598–1665) and Elizabeth Caryll (~1603–1658)
This was during the reign of Charles 1st just before the Civil War Charles, son of Charles Smith, was born on 5 July 1635 and baptised in Harting, Sussex, England.[1] where his mothers family lived.
Family and Early Life
Charles's father Charles Smith was created Lord Carington 13th October, and Viscount 4th November 1643 by Charles 1st
He had six daughters.
He was murdered by one of his servants for plunder, age 67 in Pontoise, Aisne, Picardie, France.[2]
His brother Sir John Smith was knighted by Charles I on the battlefield of Edge Hill in 1642 for recovering with his own hands the Royal Standard from the Parliamentarians.

He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Carrington of Burford, in the Province of Connaught [I., 1643] circa April 1701. He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Carrington of Wotton, co. Warwick [E., 1643] circa April 1701.
On his death, all of his titles became extinct.1[8]
Death
Charles died on May 11, 1706 in Leicester, aged 70.
He was buried on 17 May 1706 in Ashby Folville, Leicestershire, England.[9][10][11]

He suffered greatly for his loyalty to his king and to his Church, being a Roman Catholic, and when his estates were sequestered in 1646 he went to live abroad, but returned to England at the Restoration. He was murdered by his valet in 1665 at Pontoise and buried there. [1]
