Biography

Elizabeth Smoot, the daughter of John Nathan Smoot, was born before 1774 in Charles County MD. [1] She passed away before 1821.

Charles County Maryland Will Book HBBH-13, 1808-1817; {Abstract by Mike Marshall}; Page 347. John Nathan Smoot, Will, January 9, 1812; January 21, 1815 I, John Nathan Smoot of CC, being at this time in good bodily health and of sound disposing mind, memory and understanding;

To wife Mary Smoot, 1/3 part of my personal estate.

To children; Charles Smoot, Elizabeth Weems, Mary Smoot, Ann Smoot, Eleanor Smoot, Susannah Wilson Smoot, Margaret Brent Smoot and William Hendley Smoot, the balance of my estate real personal and mixed.

Item: whereas I have already given to my son Charles Smoot and daughter Elizabeth Weems certain property for settlement in the world, I desire that whatever I may so have given either of them since they left me shall be deducted. Item: whereas my wife Mary is entitled to an undivided fourth part of certain lands of which her father Hezekiah Briscoe died seized it is my will at distribution of my property pursuant to the foregoing clause, my wife's lands shall be valued and the amount included in my estate so that upon the division, each child shall receive and equal proportion, with son Charles Smoot and daughter Elizabeth Weems proportions subject to deductions. But in case my wife refuses, or in case of her death, or if my children by her shall refuse to permit the lands be included in my estate, then so much shall be deducted from their proportions of my estate and added to the shares of my children by my former wife and will make them equal.

On May 24, 1820, John Weems and Elizabeth his wife, of Charles County, deeded to Mary Smoot portions of "George's Rest" and "Calvert's Hope" which Elizabeth Weems was entitled from the estate of her father John Nathan Smoot.
