Death of Elizabeth Boyd.
Elizabeth Boyd was born in Tyrone County, Ireland, in 1817. She was the fifth daughter of Jeremiah and Nancy Smyth, whose remains lie in the Mount Vernon cemetery. She with her parents and their children, came from Ireland to Linn County, Iowa, in 1842. She was married to Joseph E. Boyd in 1844. He died in 1867. She leaves seven (7) children surviving her, five (5) daughters and two (2) sons.
She was born, baptized, and educated in the Reformed Presbyterian Church and upon the organization of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Sugar Grove, afterwards Mount Vernon, Iowa, in 1847. She united with and became a member of that congregation. She remained in her communion until that congregation was broken up and dissolved in 1874, at which time some of the members joined the United Presbyterian Church at Cedar Rapids, and other joined the Presbyterian Church at Mt. Vernon, she among the latter. She was a woman possessing a clear, decided and forcible mind of strict integrity and truth and an earnest devoted and intelligent Christian. She will be missed greatly by her family, her friends, and her neighbors.
