Biography

Elsie Smythe was born in 1909 in Willington Quay, Northumberland, England to Robert Collinge Smythe and Mary Ellen (Dickens) Smythe. Her birth was registered in Tynemouth, Northumberland in the last quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Dickens.^[1] Elsie was christened on 28 Oct 1909 in Howden, Northumberland.^[2]

In 1911 Elsie Smythe (age 1) lived at 17 George Street, Willington Quay, Wallsend, Northumberland with her father Robert Collinge (54, Engineer's Machinist in Marine Engineering), mother Mary Ellen (38) and six siblings: Robert (14, Errand Boy), Thomas Dickens (12, School), Benjamin Dickens (11, School), John William (9, School), Sarah Ellen (7, School), and Norman (3).^[3]

Elsie Smythe passed away in 1913, aged 3 years. Her death was registered in Tynemouth in the second quarter of the year.^[4]
