Jacob was born about 1710. He is the son of Alexander Snead and Mary Sims. He was named in the will of his father.

2. From Hanover County real property records: Date of Transfer: 10 Mar 1756, to Jacob Snead, consideration of 1 pound 10 shillings, 300 acres, on both sides of Ivy Creek on the S side of Rivanna, adj. His own lines, Lewis, Rebecca Bunch and Michael Holland

From Albemarle County real property records: "This indenture made the Twenty fifth day of October 1766 Between JACOB SNEED of the Parish of Fredricsvill in the County of Albemarle of one part and ALEXANDER MACKEY JUNR. of the Parish of Fredrickvill and County of Albemarle of other part Witnesseth that said JACOB SNEED for sum of Nine pounds Corant money of Virginia doth sell unto said ALEXANDER MACASKEY land in the County of Albemarle and Fredricksvill Parish containing Fifty acres granted to JACOB SNEED by Pattent dated the Tenth day of March 1756 being on the North side of IVEY CREEK branch of the River and bounded Beginning at LEWISes Corner white oak then on REBECCA BUNCHs line South East to her Corner poynters new line South West in MICHAEL HOLLANDs line on his lines North West to a new corner Spanish oak New line South to pointers in LEWISes line North to the first Station to ALEXANDER MACKEY. In presence of WM. TERRELL LEWIS, JOEL TERRILL, NATL. "+" WHITLOCK, SARAH LEWIS. /s/ JACOB "I" SNEED ["I" with short slash through middle of it.] At Albemarle April Court 1767. This Indenture & Receipt & Memorandum were acknowledged by JACOB SNEED party thereto & Ordered to be recorded.
