She was an enslaved woman, owned by Tully Snead of Accomack County, Virginia. Snead later emancipated Sarah.
After Emancipation, Sarah was required to register as a Free Negro in Accomack County. Her registration provides this information:
’#865, Sarah Snead; born about the year 1798 “Emancipated by Tully Snead by Deed of Record in Accomack County Court”
Description: complexion: “A light black”; height: ?’ 7 3/4”; distinguishing marks: “a scar on the left hand near the thumb & a scar on the right side of the back of the head”
She passed away after 1829.
