Tulsa World Irvin Shelton Snead

Irvin Shelton Snead, age 89, died on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in Fayetteville, Ark. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2015 and the funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m., Monday, January 19, both at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, Okla., with committal service following at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.

Irvin was born November 17, 1925 in Oakland, Tex. to Eula Mae Allen Snead and John Irvin Snead, enlisted in the Army air Corps during WWII and served as a flight engineer on a B-17 Bomber. He married Ruby Lee Duke on November 5, 1948 in Grand Prairie, Tex. He graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1943, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1950.

Mr. Snead started his career in road construction with Texas Construction two days after graduation and worked in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, New Jersey and Pennsylvania before settling in Tulsa, where he lived for 56 years. He worked for Standard Industries, Snead & Terry Construction, Tulsa Paving Company and Cummins Construction. He served as president of Tulsa Paving for 17 years and worked for Cummins Construction as a consultant, later as president and CEO.

He was preceded in death by: sisters, Helen Ray Grubbs and Eula Dean Hutchinson; brothers, John Weldon Snead and Thelbert Wayne Snead; and brother-in-law, Stuart Wayne Duke. He is survived by: his wife of 66 years, Ruby Snead of Farmington, Ark.; son, Randy Snead of Tulsa; daughter, Sandra Dayringer and husband David of Prairie Grove, Ark.; grandson, Jason Dayringer and wife, Jenni of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada; granddaughters, Sarah Dayringer of Tulsa, and Katie Winkler and husband, Thomas of Prairie Grove; great-grandsons, Atli Dayringer, Tommy Winkler, and Jack Shelton Winkler; and sister-in-law, Tomagene Snead of Bonham, Tex.
