Robert Lee Snead Sr. was born November 13, 1873 in Malden, West Virginia to William and Millie Stanley Snead. (The West Virginia archives list his birth in September but his WWI draft card states November.) He was one of six known children born to the couple.
Robert spent the majority of his life in Kanawha County, West Virginia. He married Mae (Mary Elizabeth aka Mae or May) Palmer, according to a census record in 1895. The couple had three known children.
Robert first worked as a day laborer before working as an electrician for a coal mining company. Some time between 1910 and 1917, the family moved to Montgomery, West Virginia in Fayette County.
In the 1920s census, Robert was reported as living in the family home in Montgomery but a short time later, he was recorded as living as a boarder in Powellton, West Virginia. It is not clear if Robert and Mae separated around this time; but in 1930, Mae was head of the household in Montgomery and listing herself as widowed.
It is unknown at this time if Robert passed away prior to 1930 for sure. Nothing else about his life is known past the 1920 census.
