Arthur Snell was born in Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, England.

Arthur was born in Hull, Yorkshire, England, on May 3, 1899. His parents were Thomas Snell and Mary Ann Spencer. He was one of eight children. (In the 1911 census, his mother declared she had eight children but one had died).

Arthur married Hannah Coates in Hull, in 1922. The marriage was registered in the second quarter in Sculcoates. It appears the couple had seven children between 1924 and 1940. In the 1939 Register, there is one child listed, and five redacted entries, indicating six children at residence at the time.

No definitive record of Arthur's death has been found.
