Hampton was born in 1833 at Sangamon County, Illinois. [1] His parents were John Snelson and Anna Cantrall. He married Harriet Guyott 22 December 1859 at Sangamon County. [2] He served as a Private, in Company H, 114th Regiment of the Illinois Infantry during the U.S. Civil War. [3] Hampton passed away 7 November 1865 at Rose Hill in Mahaska County, Iowa [4] and was buried in the Old Rose Hill Cemetery. [1]
