Bird Winfield "Birdie" Snow (aka Byrd Snow) was born on October 10, 1809, on his parents' farm near Snow Creek, Dobson, Surry County, North Carolina. His parents were Frost & Snow, Jr., b. 1758 in Spotsylvania Co., Virginia, and his wife, Elizabeth (Fortner) Snow. They had moved from Virginia to Surry County, North Carolina just after the American Revolutionary War ended (ca. 1786). Birdie was the youngest of Frost Jr. and Elizabeth (Fortner) Snow's 8 children. He had 5 brothers and 2 sisters.[1]
On March 15, 1832, perhaps on her 20th birthday, Eliza Forkner Harris married her neighbor and cousin, 23 year old "Birdie" W. Snow at the Snow Hill Baptist Church, Dobson, NC. They had a farm near Dobson, Surry, North Carolina, where their extended families were Appalachian farmers and "primitive" Baptists. Birdie and Eliza (Harris) Snow had 13 children:[2]

Eliza (Harris) Snow lived a long country-farmer's-wife life in Surry County, North Carolina. She died "in her bed" on March 18, 1910, at home and was buried in the Snow Hill Baptist Cemetery, Dobson, Surry Co., North Carolina, USA. She was 98 years old. Her husband, Bird Winfield "Birdie" Snow, had died earlier on February 28, 1895, at age 85. He is buried next to his loving wife of 60+ years.[3]
