"Harve" Snow was born in July 1854 in Dalton County, Georgia. According to family genealogies, his name was "Harvey Newton Snow" but he was always known as "Harve" and that is what is on his gravestone. His parents were George Washington Snow and his wife, Narcissa (Webb) Snow. His Snow family heritage went back to Bedford County, Virginia, and from there to Lincolnshire, England.
After the US Civil War ended, now a young man, Harve Snow left Georgia and migrated north and west across the Appalachian mountains to Kentucky. He met and married Etta Jane Hicks, b: February 18, 1852 in Kentucky, around 1880. They settled in Crittenden County, located near the Ohio River and Illinois, and had 3 children:
At some point the entire family decided to leave Kentucky and move to Wise County, Texas. They homesteaded near Decatur, about 65 miles north-west of Dallas, Texas. Both William and Learner Snow married in Wise County, Texas, and raised their families there.
Harve Snow died in Wise County, Texas, on July 11, 1932. His wife survived his passing another six years. She died there on February 10, 1938. They and sons William T. Snow and Learner E. Snow, with their wives, are all buried near each other at the Sweetwater Cemetery, Decatur, Wise Co., Texas, USA.[1][2]
