Biography

Joseph Snow was the son of John Snow and Sarah Stephens. He was born in 1697 in Woburn, Middlesex County, English Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England.

Joseph Snow and Bridget (perhaps Field) married about 1717. Their first child was born in Dunstable, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay, New England, on 24 July 1719.[1]

Lieutenant Joseph Snow was a pioneer settler of Dunstable, aka Nottingham West, then in the English Province of Massachusetts Bay. The town is now Hudson, New Hampshire. His father Ensign John Snow had moved to Dunstable from nearby Woburn in the early 18th Century. Joseph was assessed on his home in Dunstable from 1733 to 1746. Bridget stayed in town until 1760; she moved to Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay, shortly thereafter.

Joseph Snow settled in the east part of Dunstable, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay, which in 1733 became known as "Nottingham West" and later it became Hudson, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, when local borders were re-surveyed and changed. He was a selectman in 1734, a moderator in 1746 and, in 1739, one of the delegates to the General Court of Massachusetts Bay Province, concerning the incorporation of Naticook. He was also a militia lieutenant:

"Captain Robert Fletcher, Henry Baldwin, Joseph Snow and Joseph Hamblet, delegates to the Massachusetts General Court to answer for the town in all matters relating to the petition of the people of 'Natticook' to be incorporated as a separate township."

Joseph married Bridget UNKNOWN. They had eight children:

  1. Sarah Snow
  2. Rebecca Snow
  3. Elizabeth Snow
  4. Mary Snow
  5. Bridget Snow
  6. Joseph Snow
  7. John Snow
  8. Henry Snow

He died 7 May 1747 in Nottingham West (now Hudson), Middlesex (now Hillsborough) County, Massachusetts (now New Hampshire) and is buried in Ford Cemetery, Nottingham West (Hudson), Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.[2]
