Nicholas Snow, Sr., was born about 1690 in Western District of County Somerset, England. He passed away in 1745 in the village of Luccombe. He is buried at St. Mary's Churchyard, Luccombe, West Somerset District, Somerset, England. [1]
He married Richord Spurrier, christened 14 Sep. 1695, heiress of the Spurrier family, on January 23, 1721, in Oare, West Somerset, and thus obtained 40% (2 fifths) of the revenues of the Manor at Oare, of which they were part-owners. Their son, Nicholas Snow, b: 1727, later bought the other 3 fifths in March 1788, thereby restoring the Manor to single-family ownership. This West Somerset Snow family were "Yeomen" or local gentry-level, independent landowners.[2] An ancestor, named John Snow (aka Snowe) b: ca. 1560, had been the mill owner at Porlock in the 16th Century; as such he was a direct competitor with the ancestor of the Spurrier (aka Spurryer) family around 1600.
