Biography

Charles Edward Snow was born February 25, 1861 on his parents' farm in Boone County, Indiana, USA. He was the son of William Sampson Snow, an English immigrant who was born during his parents' Trans-Atlantic ocean crossing to the USA on 25 June 1832, and Sarah Elizabeth (Lummis) Snow, b: 3 Jun 1838 in Dayton, Ohio. They had married in Indiana in 1859, before William S. Snow joined the 18th Indiana Infantry, fighting for the Union during America's Civil War (1861-65). William S. Snow was a farmer.

On the June 1870 US Census, Charles Snow was recorded as 9 years old, living with his parents and family in Warrensburg Township, Johnson County, Missouri, USA: [1]

The 1880 Census also stated that while Charles E. Snow's paternal grandparents were both born in England, his father having been born aboard ship during their trans-Atlantic voyage; his mother's parents had been born in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

On April 5, 1883, in Sumner County, Kansas, 22 year old Charles E. Snow married Armada "Armadie" Bunch, b: 1865 in Missouri. The couple lived and farmed for a dozen years in Sumner County, Kansas, before moving to El Reno Township, Canadian County, in Oklahoma Territory around 1895. They had 12 children, some of whom died as infants:[3] [4]

The 1900 US Census also stated that Charles and Armadie Snow had been married 17 years (m: 1883) and that Armadie Snow had bore 9 children of whom 7 were living in June 1900 (6 of them still at home).

The April 1910 US Census recorded Charles and "Amanda" Snow as still living on their rented farm in El Reno Township, Canadian County, Oklahoma (which had become a state in 1907), USA:[7]

This Census also reported that as of 1910 "Amanda" [sic] Snow had bore 14 children, 9 of whom were still living in June 1910.

The June 1930 US Census was the last in which Charles Snow appeared. He and "Madie" Snow were now living in a rented house in the town of Yukon, Canadian County, Oklahoma, USA, with a Lodger to help pay expenses:[9]

Charles Edward Snow died on October 7, 1939, at age 78 in Yukon, Canadian County, Oklahoma, USA. He was buried at the El Reno Cemetery, Plot: 1st Addition, Block 19, Lot 27, Space J; El Reno Township, Canadian County, Oklahoma, USA. [10] His wife, Armada "Madie" (Bunch) Snow, survived her husband's passing until January 25, 1951, living for most of that time in their house in Yukon City, Canadian County, Oklahoma. In her final illness, at 85 years old, she returned to live with her youngest daughter, Tressa (Snow) Henrickson, in El Reno Township, where she passed away. She was laid to rest beside her husband at the El Reno Cemetery, Plot: 1st Addition, Block 19, Lot 27, Space K; El Reno Township, Canadian County, Oklahoma, USA. [11]

County Pioneer Taken By Death: Obituary: Charles E. Snow:
Funeral Services for Charles E. Snow, 78-year-old pioneer resident of Canadian County, will be conducted at the First Christian Church in El Reno, at 1:30PM Monday with Rev. M.B. Pringle, Pastor, in charge. Burial will be made in the El Reno Cemetery.
Mr. Snow, who had been in ill health the past three years, died at 3:35 pm Saturday at his home in Yukon...
Mr. Snow lived 12 miles east of El Reno before moving to Yukon 12 years ago... [12]
