Marcus' father died when he was seven years old. He lived on the farm until he was 16 years of age. His mother remarried, and he worked in a store in Lowell, Massachusetts, with his step-father, Benjamin Parker. for about two years.
He then went to Sterling, Massachusetts, where he worked in pottery with his uncle, Abner Wight, for one year. He bought out the business in 1865, by then having learned the potter's trade. This business he later sold out to a stock company.[2]
Marcus was married to Alma Bennett on September 26, 1866, in Lancaster, Massachusetts.[3] They had one child:[2]

In December of 1887, Marcus came to California. He grew oranges and lemons for 15 years in Highland, California.[2]
Marcus died on May 17, 1921, in South Pasadena, California, aged 80 years.[4][2] He is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.[5]
His obituary was published in the San Bernardino Sun on May 20, 1921:
Marcus L. Snow passed away at his home in South Pasadena on Tuesday morning, after an illness dating from the first of the year. He was 81 years of age and a native of Maine, and had been a resident of San Bernardino and Highland for many years, leaving 14 years ago for South Pasadena where he had resided since. Beside the widow, he leaves one son, M. C. Snow of the Morris & Snow Seed Company of Los Angeles, and a grandson, Arthur Snow of South Pasadena.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the chapel of Turner, Stevens and Berry, 1417 Mission Street, South Pasadena, and interment will be in that city.
