Tulah Maxine Walters, 90, of Chillicothe, formerly of Table Grove, died Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Unity Point Proctor Medical Center in Peoria.

Born Nov. 27, 1925, in Macomb at home to LeRoy and Jennie Marie (Walston) Snowden, she married A.E. ”Jack” Walters in Palmyra, MO. They celebrated their 73rd anniversary in January. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Karen Sue (Mike) Danner of Chillicothe and Elizabeth Kay (Virg) McElfresh of The Villages, FL; three grandsons, Brian Douglas McElfresh of O’Fallon, MO, Darin Lee McElfresh of Peoria, IL, and Adam Michael (Jing) Danner of Chillicothe; and five great-grandchildren, Kevin Scott McElfresh, Sean Ryan McElfresh, Ryker Breckin McElfresh and Skylar Reese McElfresh, all of O’Fallon, and Haung Liu Danner of Chillicothe; one brother, Eugene (Deb) Snowden and one sister, Sandra Avery, both of Burlington, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Robert Snowden, Richard Snowden, and James Snowden, all of Burlington.

She graduated from Table Grove High School in 1943. She was a tax preparer first for HandR Block for three years, then for the law firm of Lucie, Heiser, Slater for eight years, retiring in 1984. She and her husband moved to Chillicothe in 2003.

She was a member of Chillicothe First United Methodist Church, the Chillicothe Red Hat Society, TOPS, and 4 Directions Healing Foundation.

There will be no visitation. A graveside service is at 11 a .m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb. Cremation has been accorded. Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe is in charge of arrangements.
