William was the son of WIlliam Snyder and Elizabeth McLennan.
He married Catherine Curry in 1886 in Lancaster, Ontario. Children: Herbert, William and Flora.
He died Sept. 22, 1937. Death record shows his parents' names. [1]
William D. Snyder, widely known resident of Ironwood for the last 43 years, died at Grand View hospital Wednesday morning, after being in poor health for some time. "Bill," as his many friends called him, was born 77 years ago in Glengarry county, Ontario. He moved from Canada to the Marquette range residing there seven years, coming to Ironwood in 1893. His first employment here was with the Metropolitan Iron and Land company and later by the Oliver Iron Mining Co., as a hoisting engineer until he had the misfortune to lose his left hand while serving in that capacity. For many years he was city clerk and treasurer under the alderman form of government. After leaving the city employment he returned to the Oliver Iron Mining Co. as surface foreman at the Pabst mine, retiring a few years ago.
Deceased leaves his wife and three children, Howard of Wichita, Kan., Herbert and Mrs. L. W. Van Slyck of this city, also five grandchildren, a brother in Glengarry County, Ontario, and a sister at Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Funeral Services will be conducted this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the McKevitt-Kershner-Patrick Co. funeral home by the Rev. C. B. Huffer. [2]
