The Rev. Robert Carl Snyder was born in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois on December 26, 1937, the only son, and oldest child of Harold and Gertrue (Bischof) Snyder who were married in Skokie, Cook County, Illinois, September 7, 1936. Robert's father frequently changed employment, working in Chicago until the start of WW II when the family moved to Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.

Robert began his education at St. Tarcissus Roman Catholic School in Chicago, then transferred to Harshman Elementary School near Dayton. By the sixth grade the family was back in Illinois, where Robert matriculated first at the Elementary school in Wauconda, Illinois, then finishing elementary school at the Garvy School in Chicago. He attended Taft Senior High school for 2 1/2 years before the family moved once again to Watervliet, Michigan where Robert finished High School. Robert's higher education took place at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he earned B.A. in 1959. He then transferred his educational career to the Hartford Seminary Foundation in Hartford, Connecticut where he was awaded a Master of Divinity degree in May 1963.

On August 15, 1959, Robert married at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Midland, Michigan, Gwen Ardith Smith, the daughter of Donovan Neil and Barbara (Coolbaugh) Smith. Together, they are the parents of one daughter.

Robert's ordination to the ministry of the United Church of Christ occurred on May 5, 1963 at the Congregational Church of Crystal, Montcalm County, Michigan. He next served from 1965-1972 as the pastor of Trinity Congregational church near Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1972 he was called go serve as the Senior Minister of Park Congregational Church in Toledo, Ohio.

Robert took a sabbatical from full-time ministry in 1978, doing interim work and working briefly for Owens Technical College. He then served a brief pastorate in the Congregational Church of Armada, Michigan, followed by a nine year pastorate in the Congregational Church in South Haven, Michigan. He then did a three year pastorate at West Adrian, Michigan, before finishing his career as the pastor of Kenilworth United Church of Christ in Buffalo, New York in October, 2000.

During his career Robert served the United Church of Christ as moderator of three Associations: Grand Rapids Michigan, Northwest Ohio, and Southwest Michigan, and as the moderator of the Michigan Conference of the United Church of Christ. He has been included in the MARQUIS WHO'S WHO IN AMERICAN RELIGION for more than 25 years.

I saw your comment in the Samuel Hunt profile, from 2020. The Joseph Hunt you mention is from the Westchester Hunts. The new Jersey Hunts were not related to them. This may help. I’ll do some digging too.
