Biography

IGNATIUS SOLLARS, JR. DIES Ignatius Sollars, Jr., born 20 Mar 1807, Deerfield Township, Ross County, Ohio, was a son of Ignatius and Elizabeth Sollarsformer natives of Virginia. He married his first wife Catherine Southard (1803-1834) on 19 Jan 1825 in Pickaway Co., Ohio. Within two or three months, the newly weds moved west with her parents and siblings to Vermillion Co., Indiana where their only child, Azariah Sollars was born 15 Oct 1826. Ignatius married 2nd Mary West (1813-1841), children Malinda, 1836 and John, 1837, were born to them. On 1 Mar 1842, Ignatius married widow Phoebe DeWitt Irby, who brought three sons to the marriage: Charles, 1834, Silas, 1838, and John, 1840. To their marriage were born seven children. Ignatius Sollars Jr. spent all his adult life in or near Eugene, Indiana. Their children brought fourth many grandchildren to warm their long lives. Nace lived out his remaining days on his farm in Elwood Township, Vermilion County, Illinois. He died there in the year 1889 at the advanced age of 82 years. Burial was in the Eugene Cemetery. PHOEBE DEWITT IRBY SOLLARS DIES Phoebe DeWitt Irby Sollars, a widow, died. Sunday, 14 September 1890, in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., Indiana at age 76. The cause of death was attributed to "Nervous Prostration" for one year and old age. The informant on her death certificate was J. A. Walters of Terre Haute, Ind. Even though her burial place was not mentioned, she was laid to rest beside her husband, Ignatius Sollars, Jr., in Eugene Cemetery, Eugene, Vermillion County, Indiana. No marker exists for either of them.
