Lula Eileen Holmes, 76, Springfield, Mo., died at 11:56 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997 in Columbia Hospital South. She was born March 22, 1921, in Clever, Mo. to Everett and Geneva Solomon. She was united in marriage to Estel Jefferson Holmes on June 21, 1947, and to this union a son, Thomas Everett Holmes, was born. In past years, Eileen was active in the Eastern Star, Billings, Mo., and served many years for the Red Cross. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Victor Solomon and a sister, Lois Wilson. She is survived by her son, Tom; two grandchildren, Timothy Thomas Holmes, and Heather Elizabeth Holmes; her brother-in-law, Ivan Holmes; a sister-in-law, Polly Solomon; an aunt, Ophelia Perkins; several nieces and her precious dog “Sugar.” She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandma, who was extremely proud of her family. She had many dear friends she considered “family” who will equally miss her. Eileen had the privilege of having a son who worshipped her and she had the unique opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren and to be that model “Grandma.” She is remembered by her many hugs and always willing to lend a listening ear. She always prefaced her goodbyes with “I Love You.” Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, in the Klingner Mortuary chapel with the Rev. Damon Thomas officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at their convenience in the mortuary.
