Per Hewlett, this John Somers was a son of John Somers. He wrote this of the father,
- "John Somers. The family possessed an estate at Clifton in the parish of Severn Stoke in the county of Gloucester. This John Somers, the first of whom there is any record, was born in the 15th century. He had a son."
