Biography

Eva Magdalena "Sarah" Somers was born 6 February 1753 and baptised 11 March 1753 at St. Michael's Church. She was the daughter of Matthias and Christine Somers[1] [2] of Whitefield, Chester, Pennsylvania.[3]

In 1766 Matthias moved his family to New Brunswick[4] [5]

January 1, 1771, she married Benjamin Allen[6], son of Son of Benjamin and Mehitable (Cary) Allen, who was given a land grant in New Brunswick in recognition of his service with Wolfe at the taking of Quebec and Louisburg, Canada in 1758-1759, and second with the Free French in Nova Scotia. (He was a corporal, serving in Isaiah Boudreau's company of Captain Eddy's regiment who fought against the English in Cumberland County NS (see also the profile for Benjamin Allen for more on this disputed service record)[7] [8]).

Their children included:

  1. Ephraim Allen, born circa 1773, who married #Elizabeth Silliker and Emily Amelia Brownell[9]
  2. Jame, born circa 1775, who married Elizabeth Davis[10]
  3. Jonas, born circa 1776, who married Elizabeth Wells[11]
  4. Catherine, born circa 1778, who married William Wells[12]
  5. Samuel Benjamin born in 1779, who married Phoebe and Elizabeth Goodwin, and who died in 1839[13]
  6. George, born circa 1782, who married Charlotte Letitia Thompson[14]
  7. Matthew, born 1783, who married Mary "Peggy" Dobson[15] [16]
  8. Eliphalet, born 1787, who married Hannah Raworth[17]
  9. David, born 1790, who married Sarah Eunice Polly[18]
  10. Jane, born 1792, who married John McKay[19]
  11. Cynthia, born 1794[20]
  12. Dan, born 1796[21]
