Edward Somerset, 2nd Marquis of Worcester was born about 1601. Graduated in 1627 from Cambridge University, England, with a Master of Arts Degree. Edward was the son of Henry Somerset, 1st Marquess of Worcester and wife Anne Russell. He married Elizabeth Dormer in 1628 and they had two daughters and one son. English nobleman, Inventor and author. Published in 1655, The Century of Inventions which was printed in 1663, including a device described as the "Water-commanding Engine". The real inventor of the hydraulic press and the steam engine?
(The famous story of James Watt observing the lifting of a kettle lid by the pressure of steam was originally told of the Marquess of Worcester. The steam engine was already widely used in Watt's time.)
