Biography

Pat was born March 21, 1964 in Houma, Louisiana to Floyd Songe and Maybelle Dupre, but was raised at 124 Texas Gulf Road, Bourg, Louisiana.

124 Texas Gulf Road, Bourg, Louisiana

As a youth, Pat enjoyed the outdoors, which included bike riding, pup tent camping, youth recreational sports, swimming the many canals and bayous and summertime at the Montegut pool. As a teen, hunting and fishing, with family and friends became important. All of these activities were enjoyed in the rural environment of his childhood. Some of his favorite memories were of riding in the back of his parents old dodge pickup, with his siblings, towing the family pop-up camper to the many beaches and campgrounds in Southern Louisiana and Southern Mississippi.

Pat attended and graduated from South Terrebonne High School in 1982, making above average grades, but nowhere near the top of the class. As a member of the track team, he threw the javelin, with a personel best toss of 194 feet and 5 inches. As a member of the football team, he was blessed to have been offered and accepted a scholarship to Nicholls State University.

Pat attended and graduated from Nicholls State University in 1987 with a BS in General Studies, as an average student. There were no jobs in Southern Louisiana in the summer of 87, with his grades and skills, which led Pat to the U.S. Navy.

Pat enlisted in the spring of 87 and was headed to boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois, two weeks after graduating from college, where the adventure began. One year later, to the day, he left Great Lakes as an electronic technician, Petty Officer 3rd class. After 4 months of radar training in San Diego, California, his orders took him to Norfolk, Virginia to meet his ship, the U.S.S. McCandless, FF1084.

U.S.S. McCandless, FF1084

As luck would have it, The McCandless was on a Mediterranean Cruise, which meant Pat flew overseas to meet his ship in Naples, Italy. There were many deployments to the Caribbean and off the east coast and one more deployment to the Med/Red seas in support of operation Desert Storm.

Letter of commendation
Shipboard life included continuous damage control, security and more electronics training. His favorite training was the 3 week class in Jacksonville, Florida for search and rescue training. The adventure included traveling the Suez and Panama canals and port visits to Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America and many Caribbean islands. The spring of 92 saw the McCandless transferred to the reserve fleet, which changed his orders and sent him to the Naval Air Warfare Center in Lakehurst, New Jersey. This is where he ended his naval journey.

Pat ended up in Charlotte, North Carolina after the navy. He worked one year for Alcatel making fiber optic cables. He changed jobs hiring on with Bellsouth as an electronic technician in August of 1994. He was able to transfer back to Louisiana with stops in New Orleans, Houma and currently Hammond, Louisiana, working in the central offices of the company now known as AT&T.

Pat is happily married and is raising 2 outstanding daughters. Pat still loves the outdoors, but his fair skin can no longer handle the sun. Pat loves reading and researching history. Never the social butterfly, Pat does love drinking beer at craft brewery's with family, friends and whoever else is sitting next to him.

Per Ancestry.com, my DNA is calclated to be 84% France, 4% England and Northwestern Europe, 4% Scotland, 3% Ireland, 2% Germanic Europe, 2% Wales and 1% Indigenous Americas- North. Looking at my ancestors here on wikitree, I would say that they are fairly accurate. Y and mt test results were recently added to wikitree.

Great Pat! We are happy to have you remain in the project.

Hi, Pat, thank you for adding the 1695 Oath of Allegiance names (with the source) for those Acadians. Very much appreciated. Just wondering, have you found anyone where the 1695 date would extend what we know of how long they lived??

Best wishes, Cindy

I have not looked closely at the death dates of the people on list. I have focused on people (father/sons/brothers) with common names to make sure I am adding the information to the correct person that actually signed the list. I have noticed that some of the people that have commented on the blog are very knowledgeable about our Acadian ancestors.

I am so glad you mentioned the check to verify they are the correct person. I though about asking but did not want to insult you. And of course you already had though of it! Yes we have some very sharp eyes on these Acadian profiles, indeed.

Yes, I was/am intimidated adding this our Acadian ancestor profiles. I do feel that this is very important history for someone looking for more about our ancestors, researched correctly with verifiable sources.

HI, Pat, thank you for cleaning up all those wrong matches for Anne Marie Boudrot and Marie Claire Dugas. Do you have any clue as to how those came to be? Cindy

No problem on the clean up, just a little time consuming. It looks to me that someone ran some type of program because most were dated on the same day or two . I have noticed the same day or two on other profiles that I have cleaned in the past.

Thank you for the nice additions to Acadian profiles! As you might know, the Acadians project becomes a co-manager of all Acadian profiles so we can monitor changes and assist with anything that might come up. For those who went to Louisiana, we add the Louisiana Families project as well. These projects co-manage, they don't replace existing managers, such as yourself. It looks like you are connected to some well known Acadian families. Should you develop an interest in doing more in that area, you might want to join the Acadian project.

You might like the Reliable Sources page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Acadians_Project_Reliable_Sources and our project page for good tips about names, locations, etc: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Acadians I see you've found Karen Theriot Reader and we like her, too. A professional genealogist, she cites sources which is excellent and different from most family trees. Best wishes in your WikiTree experience. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any quaestions! Cindy Cooper, co-leader, Acadian project

Thank you for the note on my work on my Acadian ancestors. I am near the end of the line on my Acadian family as I have connected to just about all of the first families in my tree. I am now on to concentrating on brick wall Irish, German and token Italian, Vito-3. I am still interested in the Acadian families and stories, and look to help, as time permits.

Hi Pat

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz. As Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within a project is essential

Please ensure there is a location and that the location data matches the dates of the profile. . Avoid abbreviations, add sources with citations & links for sources to support the data. From wiki ID go to Research to find sources.  Please review Help Sources  /  Source for pre1700 Profiles  /  Pre-1700 Cite reliable sources  Thanks for joining a project, great to see your enthusiasm.

Explore Pre-1700 Projects list to find links to your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic

For help with tags, click  editing your tags I would recommend adding surname tags, the following starts with your surname and others you have shown interest in:

SONGE

DUPRE

SANCHEZ

SEVIN

DUPLANTIS

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To get the best results, begin adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to ancestors already in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, it can sometimes help to add what you know on another line. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

Let me know if you have any questions and have fun!

Hi P,

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

We do enter our DNA testing information and it is very easy to do. On the top right of most pages there is an active button "ADD." If you hover over that button there is a drop-down box and the first item is DNA. Click on that and follow the instructions. You can enter your testing company and the type of test such as Y-DNA, mtDNA or Autosomal (Family Finder): Ancestry, FTDNA, My Heritage, and GedMatch are examples of the companies. You will also add your identifying information such as the kit # for FTDNA.

As you add more profiles the information will continue to show up on all the appropriate ancestors' profiles.

Here are some helpful links DNA Features on Wikitree, GEDMatch.com, and Getting Started with DNA FAQ.

To be able to add profiles, you will need to upgrade (there is no cost). You can do this from your Upgrade page. Just answer the five questions, e.g. who you want to communicate with, if others can see your family tree, what surnames, locations, or topics interest you, etc, and click on the green box that says "Upgrade.” Upgrading just means you will become a Family Member with the ability to work on your immediate ancestors to help us achieve our goal of joining all individual family trees into one global family tree.

I hope this helps and if you have problems or other questions, please ask as I will be happy to help.
