Biography
Emily, daughter of Thomas Sopwith & Jane, was born on 27 November 1841 and baptised on 1 June 1842 in All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England.[1] Emily's birth was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1841 in the New Castle Upon Tyne Union district.[2]
In the 1851 census Emily (age 10) was the sister of Ursula Sopwith on Northumberland Street, Saint Andrew, Northumberland, England.[3] In the 1861 census Emily (age 19) was the unmarried daughter of Thomas Sopwith in Paddington, Middlesex, England.[4]
Emily married William Hollis Luce, son of Thomas Luce, Esq, on 26 August 1870 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England.[5] Emily's marriage was registered in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of 1870 in the St. George Hanover Square district.[6]
The couple had seven children: Emily Gertrude (born 1871), Jane Beatrice (1873), Evelyn Ursula (1874), Thomas Hollis (1876), Thomas Sopwith (1877), Amy (1878) and William Scott (1880).
In the 1871 census Emily (age 29) was the wife of William Holles Luce in Burton Hill, Wiltshire, England.[7]
