Walter Barlett Sorrells is believed to have been born October 1, 1795 in Burke County, North Carolina, the son of David and Mary (Bartlett) Sorrells.

Walter married Rebecca Brooks December 9, 1824 in Fayetteville, Tennessee.

In the 1850 U.S. Census, Walter is shown to be 56 years old, Rebecca is 45 with seven children living on their own farm in Marshall County, Mississippi. Living with them are 14 year old William Sorrells and 20 year old Julia Ann Sorrells.[1]
The 1860 U.S. Census lists Walter at the age of 64 with his wife Rebecca and four children living on the family farm in Polk Township of Arkansas County, Arkansas. Living with them are 15 year old Louiza J. Brooks and Mary E. Brooks, possibly twin sisters, both born in Tennessee. Also living with them are 7 year old Mary M. Armstrong and 5 year old Indianna M. Armstrong, both born in Arkansas.[2]
Walter Bartlett Sorrells is thought to have died about June 4, 1864 in DuValls, Arkansas County, Arkansas.

Sorrells-38 and Sorrels-296 do not represent the same person because: Birth dates are 16 years apart and individuals were living in different locations for the 1860 US Census reports. Also Sorrells-38 did not have a son named Christopher Columbus Sorrells for either the 1850 or 1860 censuses. He did list a wife named Rebecca for both.
