Biography

Susan Sowle was born in 1817, in Penfield, Pennsylvania.[1][2][3][4] Her father is Abner Soule and her mother is Bridgett.[5] She married 1st Elijah Pinckney in 1837 and they had several children together.[6] She married 2nd Philip Matthews on January 13, 1866, in Walker, Michigan.[7] She died on May 11, 1903, in Big Rapids, Michigan, having lived a long life of 89 years, and was buried in Sparta, Michigan.[8][2][3][4]

Soule Name

The genealogy records change between Sowles and Sowle in various places. Her ancestry includes those of the name Soule, and her father's record is Sowle, so it is more likely that her true maiden name is Sowle/Soule (rather than Sowles).

"An examination of the thousands of pages of original records which have already been literally printed in this magazine, and of a great many original records not to be found in print, has disclosed six ways of spelling this name : Soule, Soull, Soul, Sole, Soal, Sowle, all of which may be pronounced to rhyme with coal."[9]

Sowle-122 and Sowles-33 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same people.
