Biography

This profile was originally created in 2010 based on the import of one person's family tree. No sources have since appeared for Benjamin's birth or death dates, his alleged middle initial, or the name of his wife or wives.

A Benjamin South was enumerated in 1800 in Laurens County, South Carolina. [1] The household contained an adult male and adult female, each age 26-44. and five children under the age of 10 (three boys and three girls). At this time, Benjamin was supposedly about 48 years old and his wife 46, so this may fit. Other Souths adjacent in the enumeration are James (16-25), Joseph (45+), John (16-25), and William (16-25). Joseph South Is indexed in volume B of the Laurens County Register of Deeds [2] and William South is indexed in Volume D of the county's Register of Mesne Conveyance. [3]. As far as can be told from those databases with digitised images of South Carolina wills, no will for Benjamin South exists in Laurens County. This includes an examination of the digitised handwritten index for loose papers. [4] Perhaps he died elsewhere or intestate.

All Wikitree profiles of Benjamin South's immediate family are likewise sourceless. Presumably the dates associated with Benjamin are based on something, but at this time it is not known what.

DNA Notes

Autosomal triangulation has occurred between descendants of Tabitha South (m. William Huddleston) and descendants of her purported siblings and first cousins. See daughter Tabitha South's profile for further details. Likewise, the same descendants of Tabitha described in that profile also have many matches at Ancestry who descend from this South family via different children who are in common with each other, indicating that there is a connection, even if we are still chasing the details.

Benjamin was born in 1752. He was the son of John B South. He passed away in 1809. [5]

South-37 and South-1669 appear to represent the same person because: They are the same person

South-1228 and South-37 appear to represent the same person because: I’ve only just become the profile manager for South-37, so I don’t know why the profile is dateless/placeless/sourceless, etc. However, this is ithe same Benjamin who was the son of Rebecca Aspen and Benjamin South (Sr)..

Furthermore, emerging DNA segment triangulation coupled with some process of elimination is beginning to support the theory that Tabitha South, proposed daughter of Benjamin Jr., was a descendant of Rebecca Aspen and Benjamin Sr.
