George William Southmayd 1918 - 2007 George William Southmayd, 89 of Columbus, MS passed away Tuesday November 13, 2007 at Aurora Australis Lodge, Columbus, MS.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 17, 2007 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Columbus, MS with Rev. Andy Pearson officiating and Rev. Ron McDougald, assisting. A reception will be held at 12:30 PM in the Stanley Center at Trinity Place, Columbus, MS. A memorial service will also be held in Springfield, MA at a later date. Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.

Mr. Southmayd was born on August 22, 1918 in Providence, RI to the late Samuel P. and Laura Silva Southmayd. He had moved to Columbus, MS in 1972 from Springfield, MS and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, AARP, RSVP and the Adult Sunday School Class at Wesley United Methodist Church. Mr. Southmayd retired from American Bosch, Columbus, MS after 35 years of service and enjoyed bowling, playing golf, cribbage, chess and gardening, especially raising roses. Mr. Southmayd is preceded in death by his wife Doris Helen Southmayd.

Mr. Southmayd is survived by his wife Elizabeth Armitage Southmayed, Columbus, MS; daughters - Beverly (Bob) Rzewnicki, Feeding Hills, MA and Gail Vivian, Westfield, MA; step-children – Alan (Becky) Stone, Freemont, WV; Barbara (Bob) King, Oxford, MS; Sandy (Tom) Johnson, Meridian, MS; Rick (Brenda) Stone, Birmingham, AL; Grandchildren – Daniel Gorman, Kathleen (Roger) Whitworth, Kristine Brouillette, Michael (Amy) Streppoli, George (Amenda) Streppoli, Dana Stone, David Stone, Theresa Humphries, Stephen Johnson, Robert Stone, Susan Stone, Kristina Boggan, Kathryn Smith and 16 Great-Grandchildren.
