Robert was a trustee of the Duke of Norfolk in 1415. He was succeeded by his son and heir, Richard (living 3 & 4 Edw. IV / 1464-65; and during Henry VII), (Lodge, 1789).[1]
Robert's father is John Southwell, MP for Lewes, Sussex in 28 and 29 Henry VI (1450-1451), (Lodge, 1789).[2]
Blomefield (1775), states that Richard was the son of Robert Southwell, esq. and Cecilia, daughter of Thomas Sharington, esq.[3] However ... both Collins (1779),[4] and Lodge (1789),[5] writing a few years later, contradict this assertion by stating that Robert married Isabell, daughter of John Boys[e]. Burke (1832), concurs with the later two authors, while adding that Cecilia was married to Robert Southwell, esq. of Barham Hall, sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk in 1494.[6]
