Vice Admiral Robert Southwell of Kinsdale
- "Here lieth the body of Robert Southwell esq. eldest son of Anthony Southwell, esq. and nephew to captain sir Thomas Southwell, of Polylong, knt. He was descended from sir Richard Southwell, of Woodrising, in the county of Norfolk, in England, knt. whose family were, in ancient time, of the town of Southwell, in the county of Nottingham. He deceased on the 3d day of April, anno 1673. and in the 70th year of his age." [2]
Research Notes
The Barony of Clifford went through the Southwell family, with this note about their arms: Robert Southwell, Esq. of Woodrising, co. Norfolk, brother of John Southwell temp. Edward IV, ancestor of Viscount Southwell.
Another Southwell with similar arms is recorded at St. Faith's, co. Norfolk granted 15 Dec 1568.[3]
