Titanic, the epic movie by James Cameron, was released on 19 Dec 1997. Upon its release, it achieved significant critical and commercial success. With an initial worldwide gross of over $1.84 billion, Titanic was the first film to reach the billion-dollar mark. It remained the highest-grossing film of all time until another Cameron film, Avatar, surpassed it in 2010. Nominated for 14 Academy Awards, it won 11, including the awards for Best Picture and Best Director.

In 2017, Titanic was selected for preservation in the United States Library of Congress' National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant".

December 2022 will mark the 25th anniversary of the movie's opening when we were introduced to the love story of Rose and Jack and the controversial elements of the movie as compared to the tragic historical event that still arouses debates today.
