On 26 Aug 2020, the Commonwealth Monument Project unveiled the Gathering At the Crossroads Monument in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. A portion of the monument reads:
- "From January 15th, 2019 through June 30, 2020, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania commemorated the crossroads of two historic benchmarks - the 150th anniversary of the 15th Amendment, giving African-Americans the right to vote and the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, granting the vote to women.
Harrisburg's old 8th Ward once bordered the Capitol. It served as an incubator for advocacy during the years between the two legislative landmarks - 1870 and 1920."
There are "one hundred names of change agents who pursued the power of suffrage and citizenship between 1850 and 1920" inscribed around this monument.[1] These are the "100 Voices."
A book, One Hundred Voices, Harrisburg's Historic African American Community, 1850-1920, has been published to accompany the monument.[2][3] The 100 Voices are featured on the Digital Harrisburg website.[4]
The 100 Voices WikiTree Project
The goal of this project is to:
- Get all 100 Voices from the Digital Harrisburg Project into WikiTree, and
- Get them all connected to the main tree.
- Use the power of WikiTree to illustrate the relationships that may exist between them.
- Make it easy for descendants of the 100 Voices to find and connect to their ancestors.
In addition to the above "100 Voices" there are four statues surrounding the pedestal:
