This is a bill of complaint by Robert Crawford and Andrew Crawford vs. Mary Crawford and minor children about the distribution of the land owned by Andrew Crawford when he died in 1818. It is found in Box 58, packet 3215 for the year 1821 in the Equity court records of Abbeville, South Carolina.
. . . your orators Robert Crawford and Andrew Crawford that Andrew Crawford the father departed this life intestate . . . One tract containing 507 acres on Curl Tail Creek bounded by Ebenezer Foster, John Jones and others. Second tract containing 194 acres ? on Hard Labor Creek bounded by Joseph Culpepper, Patrick Scott, Samuel Atchinson. Third tract containing 133 acres bounded by 2nd tract mentioned above, and lands of Patrick Scott, Samuel Atchinson, and John Partlow.
The said Andrew Crawford . . . left a widow Mary Crawford and seven children, viz your two orators, James Crawford, William Crawford, Joseph Crawford, Vincent Crawford, and Hannah Crawford that all the children of the said Andrew Crawford except your orators are minors under the age of 14 and that their mother, the said Mary Crawford has been appointed their guardian. Your orators . . . having the fractions of the said lands to which they are entitled as heirs of their father laid off to them in . . . ; that they have frequently applied to the other heirs and distributees of the said Andrew Crawford received for a fair and just partition of the said lands between all the parties entitled unto Said Mary Crawford, James Crawford, William Crawford, Joseph Crawford, Vincent Crawford, and Hannah Crawford. _______
A council was appointed to divide the lands consisting of Edmund Cobb, Andrew Logan, Joseph Culpeper, Ebenezer Foster, and John Cochran. Their recommendation on 9 Jun 1821 was to divided the total 834 acres into 5 tracts:
No. 1, 253 and 1/2 acres valued at $4.50/acre or $1160.75 to go to Andrew Crawford, Jr.
No. 2, 253 and 1/2 acres valued at $3.50/acre or $887.25. [Hard to read but believe it was to be sold and the proceeds divided No name can be seen on the plat]
No. 3, 102 acres valued at $5.50/acre or $561.00 to go to Robert Crawford.
No. 4, 165 acres valued at $3.50/acre or $577.50 to go to Mary Crawford et al.
No. 5, 60 acres valued at $5.50/acre or $330.00 to go to Mary Crawford et al.
