Location: Massachusetts Bay Colony
Colonel Ephraim Doolittle commanded a Massachusetts militia regiment prepared and responding to the alarm of April 19, 1775. Note that minuteman companies in each town existed as early as 1773, but this page starts with those who responded to the alarm. This became the 18th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment, which was commanded by Colonel Ephraim Doolittle, who left the service in October 1775. Command of the regiment passed to its next senior officer, Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Holden, of Princeton. In August 1775, Doolittle's Regiment was designated "The 24th Regiment of Foot." It served in the Siege of Boston until its' disbandment, and was part of the force under Col. William Prescott at the Battle of Bunker Hill.
