Location: Cookstown, County Tyrone, Ireland
These are the notes of the 3rd Cookstown Presbyterian Church congregation, recorded by the Reverend John Knox Leslie. The notes are saved on PRONI Microfilm MIC/1P/460, pages G3 – J4.
Click here to view the notes -- transcription of the notes by Eddie Kelso, hosted at CoTyroneIreland.com.
The notes appear to have been initially recorded in 1842, with updates until approximately 1868. They document families who were presumably parishoners attending this church.
These notes are incredibly valuable from a genealogical perspective. I don't know if the other churches of the area had similar notes or not (but would like to see them if they did!)
The families can also be looked up in:
- Griffith's Valuation - Place Search
- Derryloran Tithe Applotment Books
- Lissan Tithe Applotment Books
- PRONI e-Catalogue - here you can find full scans of the actual tithe applotment books; they contain more information than the transcriptions above.
- PRONI Will Calendars
Interpretation of the notes
In some cases it seems the right-hand column notes have been attached to the wrong person; for example the family of Henry Bell (abt.1805-1885) -- it says daughter Sarah died of Boll hives, but other research indicates she did not. I found no record of John on the next line so it could be that John died of boll hives and the transcription table has associated the comment with the wrong person.
It is also not always clear if someone is a child of the parents listed above or not. Maybe there was some information in the book format that was lost in the Kelso transcription.
